BUSTERBLOG
2008
Thursday I had my big visit at doctor that included an ultrasound and the infamous glucose test. Tj and I arrived at 10:30 and we went right in with the ultrasound technician. Since Buster was so bouncy the first time around, Dr. Woodland wanted a better look at the heart and spine. This time Buster cooperated and we were done in 30 minutes. It looked a lot like the first time, but definitely bigger. She took a couple new stills for us that you can see on the pictures page by clicking the link at the bottom of this entry.
Buster looks to be developing well and is measuring at about 2 pounds, 2 ounces and a week ahead in development. That’s been pretty consistent this whole time so no real surprises there. We still chose to look away every time she moved the image close to revealing Buster’s sex, so that can be a surprise we’re looking forward to.
Next was the sugar test. I had to drink an 8 ounce glass of orange sugar liquid that tasted like flat soda or kids cough syrup. It wasn’t too bad but not something I’d want to repeat. The nurse gave me a timer for an hour and I had to come back when the alarm went off to test my blood sugar level to make sure I don’t have gestational diabetes. I guess the test is standard for all pregnant women these days.
In the meantime I met with Dr. Woodland and it was very quick. I asked her some questions about round ligaments and why they hurt and she responded with a really helpful answer that included her standing up, bracing herself against the wall with her arms behind her and saying “Imagine I’m your uterus.” That’s why she’s my doctor! How funny is that?
She poked around and measured my belly (25cm, from 18 last time) and then we listened to the heartbeat (140’s). Another bit of good news was that my weight has slowed the gain a little and I only gained 2 pounds from last time. So total is about 18 pounds so far — not too bad.
On my way out, I stopped in to get my finger pricked for the sugar test and I scored a 93. Anything under 140 is good so I’m well within the green on that one because if I failed, I’d have to go in for a 3 hour test. Nobody wants to have gestational diabetes.
Personally I’m feeling well. This second trimester is over in a couple weeks and people have warned me that the third trimester is the least fun. But I’m determined to keep a positive attitude because I’ve enjoyed everything so far. The slight discomforts I’ve had so far are minimal and I can say without a doubt I enjoy pregnancy. Let’s hope I can make that last.
Fourth OB Visit — 25 Weeks

{ Buster on film, take two }
Since Buster was so active for his first modeling gig, the ultrasound technician took a second look at the heart and spine. My favorite part was when she said “there’s the four chamber heart,” and Tj and I both said “the best number of chambers for a heart!” (THX, IT Crowd).
